ReaderTheme - Solomon Luke Harm
A theme for a character that I came up with. I used SynthFont with no plugins or VSTs so there are no effects and the volume is relatively low. However, this is still one of my favorite musical creations.

Finding Gaia - Of A Star
Shying away from the cold, automated complexities of everyday life, Of a Star's album "Finding Gaia" calls us to a simpler state of mind, and reinforces a long-lost spiritual connection with the earth. "Finding Gaia" plays off some of our purest emotions and allows us to step back to see the larger picture of where we stand as human beings on this earth. John Glaunert, the man behind the moniker, recorded nearly the entire album organically, including percussion, vocals, guitar, synth, keys, fie...

Fetal Discoveries - Trills
Trills returns to Archaic Horizon with his latest work, "Fetal Discoveries". This time, Jonathan Jindra offers thematic imagery rendered through his energetic and unmistakable style. Fluorescent sonics create alluring and vivid impressions. Guided by iridescent synths swirling about an incandescing playground of beats, we are induced into the sonic narrative that is "Fetal Discoveries". Narrated by harmonious melodies and the sounds of psychedelic experimentation, this album is rich with a perso...

A Pictorial History of the Expansion of the Lansing, MI Metroploitan Area using "SYMAP" time-lapse - Allan H Schmidt
This may be the earliest attempt to use automated cartography to display dynamic spatial information. The movie portrays the urban expansion of Lansing, MI where Schmidt was working at the Michigan State University Urban Regional Research Institute. Data for every property from 1850 to 1965 was coded by square mile section of the Public Land Survey System. Tto produce the SYMAP output, a thematic attribute was generated of the cumulative percent of land developed during each five year period...

THE THEMATIC MOTIVES OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH (1988) - Armen E. Petrosyan
The scientific and technological progress has radically transfigured both the strategic tasks and the scale of research work and its socio-organizational structure. The problem of goal-directed planning and management of science as mass production of knowledge not only has stood upright; it turned into a reality essentially determining the dynamics of research work and the quality of its final results...

Solution of second-order linear system by matched asymptotic expansions - Ardema, M. D
Matched asymptotic expansions (MAE) are used to obtain a first order approximation to the solution of a singularly perturbed second order system. A special case is considered in which the uniform asymptotic solution obtained by MAE is shown to converge to the exact solution. Ways in which the method can be used to sole higher-order linear systems, including those which are not singularly perturbed, are also discussed.

A decentralized software bus based on IP multicas ting - Callahan, John R.
We describe decentralized reconfigurable implementation of a conference management system based on the low-level Internet Protocol (IP) multicasting protocol. IP multicasting allows low-cost, world-wide, two-way transmission of data between large numbers of conferencing participants through the Multicasting Backbone (MBone). Each conference is structured as a software bus -- a messaging system that provides a run-time interconnection model that acts as a separate agent (i.e., the bus) for routin...

An experimental investigation of plume-induced flow separation on the National Launch System (NLS) 1 1/2-stage launch vehicle was done. This investigation resulted from concerns raised about the flow separation that was encountered on the Saturn 5. A large similarity exists between configurations and nominal trajectories. The study involved the use of solid plume simulators to simulate the base pressure encountered by the vehicle due to engine exhaust plumes at predetermined critical Mach number...

Nonlinear Observers for Gyro Calibration Coupled with a Nonlinear Control Algorithm - Thienel, Julie
Nonlinear observers for gyro calibration are presented. The first observer estimates a constant gyro bias. The second observer estimates scale factor errors. The third observer estimates the gyro alignment for three orthogonal gyros. The observers are then combined. The convergence properties of all three observers, and the combined observers, are discussed. Additionally, all three observers are coupled with a nonlinear control algorithm...

Estimates of standard errors of total ozone time and area means, as derived from ozone's natural temporal and spatial variability and autocorrelation in middle latitudes determined from daily Dobson data are presented. |Analysis of Extensive Cross-Flow Separation using Higher-Order RANS Closure Models - Morison, J. H.|
The turbulent flow fields associated with the incompressible flow over a 6:1 prolate spheroid at high angle of attack, and the supersonic flow over an ogive cylinder are studied. Both these flows are characterized by large separation and vortical flow regions and therefore provide a challenging database for comparison of turbulent closure models. Of interest is the ability to predict the effects of separation and associated vortical motion common to both flows...

A Protection And Detection Surface (PADS) for damage tolerance - Shuart, Mark J.
A protection and detection surface (PADS) concept was studied for application to composite primary aircraft structures. A Kevlar-epoxy woven face sheet with a Rohacell foam core was found to be the most effective PADS configuration among the configurations evaluated. The weight of the PADS configuration was estimated to be approximately 17 pct of the structural weight. The PADS configuration was bonded to graphite-epoxy base laminates, and up to a 70 pct improvement in compression-after-impact f...

Peripheral innervation patterns of vestibular nerve afferents in the bullfrog utriculus - Baird, Richard A.
Vestibular nerve afferents innervating the bullfrog utriculus differ in their response dynamics and sensitivity to natural stimulation. They also supply hair cells that differ markedly in hair bundle morphology. To examine the peripheral innervation patterns of individual utricular afferents more closely, afferent fibers were labeled by the extracellular injection of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) into the vestibular nerve after sectioning the vestibular nerve medial to Scarpa's ganglion to allow ...

Hair cells in the bullfrog vestibular otolith organs regenerate following aminoglycoside ototoxicity. Hair cells in these organs are differentially sensitive to gentamicin, with saccular hair cells and hair cells in the utricular striola being damaged at lower gentamicin concentrations than hair cells in the utricular extrastriola. Regenerating hair cells in these organs have short hair bundles and can be classified into a number of phenotypes using the same morphological criteria used to identi...

A multidomain approach for calculating compressible flows by using unsteady or pseudo-unsteady methods is presented. Some examples of this approach's application to calculating transonic flows in ideal fluids are shown, particularly the adjustment of shock waves...

MHD Modeling of Differential Rotation in Coronal Holes - Lionello, Roberto
The photosphere and the magnetic flux therein undergo differential rotation. Coronal holes appear to rotate almost rigidly. Magnetic reconnection has been invoked to reconcile these phenomena. Mechanism relevant to the formation of the slow solar wind. We have used our MHD model in spherical coordinates to study the effect of differential rotation on coronal holes. We have imposed a magnetic flux distribution similar to and applied differential rotation for the equivalent of 5 solar rotations.
